# What is "Pi" ?

**Pi** is an irrational number, which can be approximated by fractions of rational numbers. By definition, Pi is the ratio of circumference to diameter of every circle, and is always the same number, no matter which circle you use to compute it.

And can **YOU **name the digits of** pi (π)? How far can you go? Tell us in the comments below. And be honest, please!**

Larry Lane Rude... unless you've ever driven a bus or truck you don't know what's involved. Of course from your comments I thank God you never drove a bus I rode! You also appear too ignorant to even know what Pi is.

Unfortunately you put in 2 basically correct answers and only one could be chosen. I chose the historical one since it carries the most significance. You chose the result of Pi and in truth, your answer is incorrect. Little more research needed! Pi (rather than some other Greek letter like Alpha or Omega) was chosen as the letter to represent the number 3.141592... because the letter [] in Greek, pronounced like our letter 'p', stands for 'perimeter'. So, since early Greek History, Pi is a number used to attain the circumference of a circle!

Bob Guerrin, there are math proofs that verify it is an irrational number, which, by definition, has no end.

Mildred Litke, pi times radius squared is the area of a circle. pi times twice the radius is the circumference. since twice the radius is the diameter then pi times diameter is the circumfrence. divide by diamater and pi equals circumference divided by diameter. hence pi is the ratio of the circumference to the diameter.

Corky Hays, it is an irrational number. no less a number than 2 or one-fourth or the square root of -1.

Was that rant really necessary Mary Anne Hightower (and a few other people) even if the comments from LLR were not exactly what you would expect to see or hear? Surely the whole purpose of these Quizzes is to have some fun and to inform us not to start World War 3

Tricky, tricky, tricky. The fourth choice looked like it was right, but it wasn't.
