Denver is a city located in the South Platte River Valley, state Colorado. It's the most populous city of the state and the state capital. Denver is also the 21st most populous city of the US with approximately 682 thousand people living here.

One of the nicknames of the city is the Mile High City, as Denver sits at an elevation of exactly one mile, or 5280 feet. First founded as a mining town in 1858, Denver was incorporated as a city in 1861, so it turns 155 on the 7th of November, 2016.

The Denver downtown district is located 12 miles (19 km) east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, which makes its cityscape picturesque, unique and recognizable. The climate here is sunny, mild and dry, which attracts tourists and visitors year round.

I've been to the state capitol building. Near the top of the stairs leading to the front door is a marking on one of the steps noting the exact mile-high elevation.
