What is the capital of South Dakota?

Pierre is the capital of the state of South Dakota and the county seat of Hughes County. The population was 13,646 at the 2010 census, making it the second least populous state capital after Montpelier, Vermont. Founded in 1880 on the Missouri River opposite Fort Pierre, Pierre has been the capital since South Dakota gained statehood on November 2, 1889, having been chosen for its location in the geographic center of the state. Fort Pierre itself was named after Pierre Chouteau, Jr., an American fur trader of French origin.

Pierre is the principal city of the Pierre Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Hughes and Stanley counties.

It's not real. The only President that has ever been seriously considered for addition to Mt. Rushmore is Reagan. Sadly, geologists say it can't be done, because adding anymore faces to the sculpture would risk its total collapse, just like supporting Obama!

My daddy taught me states and capitals and then countries and capitals, we only learned "social studies" in school, not geography. I'd rather learn about civilizations that exist rather than the Incas or Aztecs, but we didn't get bith.

We memorized ALL of the state capitals when I was in third grade. AND I memorized the map of the US then too, which I use to put me to sleep if I'm having trouble dropping off. Instead of counting sheep, I put the map together, state by state in my mind and generally fall asleep somewhere near the middle depending on which side of the country I start on.
