Karin Vogel, born in 1973, in Rostock, Eastern Germany, is a therapist working with older people in chronic pain, which most would agree is a fine calling.

However, Frau Vogel has a claim to fame that is hers alone. She is regarded as being the last in the line of succession to the British throne! To be precise, she is the 4793rd person in the line of succession.

To find out how this comes to be, we have to delve back in history! She is a descendant of Princess Sophia of the Palatinate (1630-1714) whose son, the later George the 1st, was chosen as the heir to the British throne.

Aristocrats remained in the family until the 20th century, but the last few generations have held no title.

Whilst an Anglophile, she has expressed relief that there is, realistically, no possibility of her ever ascending to the throne, though it is interesting to note that her parents seem to have the longevity gene running in the present royal family, as her father lived to be 94, and her mother is also in her nineties, and at the time of writing (October 2021) still with us.
