What is the currency of Peru?

This currency is usually referred to just as "Sol" and one Sol consists of 100 céntimos (cents). The word "Sol" is of Spanish origin. It is translated as "Sun". Interestingly, the old Peruvian currency was known as inti - it was named after the Incas' Solar deity.

Dann, I've been to Machu Picchu and it's the most awesome place I've ever visited! Not a place to be if you're afraid of heights. I walked/climbed up one of the adjacent peaks and took some photos. People always think they're taken from an airplane! It's like being on top of the world.

Your answer is incorrect. Until recently, the currency was called "Nuevo Sol". On November 13, 2015, Peru's Congress voted to revert the name of the currency to simply “Sol”. It is OFFICIALLY the Sol.
