Poor question, as no country was mentioned. I guessed that the answer was something to do with the USA and Halloween, but that wasn't mentioned in the question.

My first job was as a cook and counter boy in a candy shop at Fishermans' Wharf in San Francisco in 1965-66.

I never knew that and it happens to be my birthday too. I guessed on it and I got it right.

I’m going to throw this out here, after seeing so many complaints about USA-centric questions: my 10 for today had two (2) questions pertaining to the US. Two of the others were international sports, two of nature, three about art or music, one geography (Philippines). 🤷♀️

Grant McIntosh, this question and answer indeed only apply to the US and there is no reference so who knows where this erroneous answer came from. ChatGPT says: "I could not find robust industry data verifying that the exact single date of 28 October is definitively the highest sales day. What is clear is that Halloween and the October period are the peak candy-selling time in the U.S. The biggest sweet-selling period in the world is the weeks leading up to Easter."

Mr.LaFaye, it's nothing to do with jealousy. It's the fact that this question and answer ONLY apply to the US and there is no reference. Where did this info come from? The question relates to America and even there the answer is not agreed on. The week before Easter is given in some sources.
Outside of there, Valentine's Day surpasses that awful day.
JRW
dmarkc, I did the same. One alternative was "week before Easter is the most lucrative week for candy retailers."
