What is the fictional seaside resort where the BBC's 'Dad's Army' was set?

Dad's Army is a BBC television sitcom about the British Home Guard during the Second World War. It was written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft and broadcast on the BBC from 1968 to 1977. The sitcom ran for 9 series and 80 episodes in total, plus a radio version based on the television scripts, a feature film and a stage show. The series regularly gained audiences of 18 million viewers and is still repeated worldwide.

The show is set in the fictional seaside town of Walmington-on-Sea, on the south coast of England (the exterior scenes were mostly filmed in and around the Stanford Training Area, near Thetford, Norfolk).

Absolutely loved Dad's Army! No problem getting this one right. Weatherfield is where Coronation Street is set, Crinkley Bottom was for Noel Edmond's character Mr Blobby, and Middlemarch was a fictional town created by George Eliot.

Marvelous comedy series. My Father was in the Home Guard and as he was the city treasurer where we lived he was catapulted into the Home Guard as a Captain as in those days the Home Guard officer usually came from the professional classes. Some of the stories he used to tell me were very similar to the Dad's Army series and on his own admission he was utterly useless as an officer (or in his view as someone of any rank).
