Michael Keller Ditka (born Michael Dyczko in 1939), is a former American football player, coach, author, producer of computer games, and now TV commentator of the game. His nickname is ‘Iron Mike’. He is known by this nickname which he said comes from his birthplace and being raised in the steel town of Carnegie, Pennsylvania.

When he played the game in the National Football League, his position was a tight end for three different teams- Chicago Bears (1961-1966), Philadelphia Eagles (1967-1968) and Dallas Cowboys (1969-1972). A tight end playing on offense is a position that receives the football when passed, typically from the quarterback.

In 1988, his blocking and 427 career receptions for 5,812 yards and 43 touchdowns earned him the honor of being the first tight end inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Ditka was 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 m) and weighed 228 pounds (103 kg).

When he retired as a player, Ditka went on to coach three different teams- Dallas Cowboys (1973-1992), Chicago Bears (1982-1992) and New Orleans Saints (1997-1999).

After his role as coach for the Chicago Bears in 1992, Ditka was hired as a broadcaster, working as an analyst of the game. He left broadcaster and returned to coach the New Orleans Saints for 5 years and then again worked as a studio analyst on a broadcast program, continuing today in various roles for major sports media networks.

He has written his autobiography and produced football computer games.
