What is the most common element in the Earth's atmosphere?
Nitrogen dominates in the Earth's atmosphere: it makes up 78.1% of it. Oxygen is next most abundant with 20.9% of total. Argon contributes 0.9%. The 3 elements make up 99% of the total composition of our atmosphere. The remaining 1% consists of a lot of other elements and gases.
