WRONG. MAIN Street IS the most common.

Look it up. I researched multiple sites that states 2nd/Second Street is the the most common.

Most 1st St./ First St. Have been renamed Main St. That is why 2nd St. Is the most commonly used street name.

Larry Wernle The more you think about it, the more that makes sense, right? I guessed, but my rationale was exactly as you state...1st streets, or Main streets, have been renamed to honor something or someone, in many towns and cities.

shawn, Your CAPS don't MAKE you RIGHT. Per Census Bureau, it is 2nd street, because some 1st streets have been renamed.

Think about it Main Street is not the most common. "Mainly" because most cities main street have names like Broadway, name of town street, founders name. highway name, etc., but almost every town has a 2nd street when laid out in a grid plan. I can bet I have been through more towns than the average person after driving semi cross country for 20+ years.

1st Street and main Street are synonymous in a lot of cities. So that would most likely make main Street the most common.

Maybe in a city sized community, but overall I would say Main St. Is the most popular.

Lynne Zeman, The way it was explained to me was; For every area that uses numbers for streets, some might change first Street to a named street, like, Main Street, for example. But rarely, will subsequent streets, like 2nd Street, be changed. Even if it's just one town UT of 1000, that still leaves 1000 2nd streets and 999 1st streets.
