What is the most played sport in the world?
Few things can rival football as a spectator sport and this is also matched by the number of people who participate in the sport, be it at grassroots level, 5-a-side leagues or simply playing for fun with friends. In the last global census undertaken by the sports governing body FIFA, it was estimated that there are 265 million people who play the sport along with more than 5 million referees, which equates to 4% of the world’s population.

Ironically, the TV airing of the final match of a world championship has a bigger audience for cricket... Indian, Chinese, South Africans and Aussies are great enthusiasts, and their women love the sport too, while soccer is only recently being "adopted" by the girls.

I chose Golf in protest as I do not care about the points. If lawn darts was available I would have chosen that even though the picture is the answer. Why, why, why ask the question when the answer is right there with the picture. It totally spoils the question because the picture cancels out the question. How very, very, very sad.

The opening sentence "Few things can rival football as a spectator sport" is open to much debate. My husband who is a bit of a sporting tragic describes it as chess on grass. Personally, I find chess more interesting. But, I'm not very sports inclined.
