'The Jetsons'' is an American animated sitcom produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions. It originally aired in prime time from September 23, 1962 to March 17, 1963 on ABC, then later aired in reruns via syndication. New episodes were produced from 1985 to 1987 as part of The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera block. It was Hanna-Barbera's Space Age counterpart to The Flintstones.

Astro, Elroy Jetsons' pet dog was once the dog of the millionaire J.P. Gottrockets, who had originally named him Tralfez. Astro openly despised his lavish lifestyle, and quickly abandoned it after discovering Elroy playing in a park. Even after he was retrived by Gottrockets, Astro longed for his simpler life with the Jetsons, and was eventually returned to them. Astro weighs 115 pounds and is 5'9" tall.

Don Messick originally voiced Astro with a deep voice similar to his Scooby Doo performance, replacing the first letter of every word with an R. When the show was revived for the 80s, Messick used a more distinct, raspier voice for Astro, but maintained the R habit.

While the Flintstones lived in a world which was a comical version of the Stone Age, with machines powered by birds and dinosaurs, the Jetsons' live in a comical version of a century in the future, with elaborate robotic contraptions, aliens, holograms, and whimsical inventions.
