What is the name of this instrument?
The marimba is a percussion musical instrument consisting of a set of wooden bars struck with small mallets to produce musical tones. Resonators are attached to the bars to enrich the sound. The bars are arranged the same way as on the piano, with the accidentals raised vertically and overlapping the natural bars, which helps the performer both by ear and visually.

Looking at pictures of both the vibraphone and the marimba together the picture in the question looks more like the vibraphone than the marimba, anyone else agree?

I Googled and the pic sure looks like a vibraphone.

Ron Shields, I'd say that's even the same photo-art! Good investigating. As usual, Quizzclub should do a little better research. One good visual clue as to the difference between the 2 instruments is the length of resonator tubes: on the marimba, they go from large at one end, to small at the other. The vibes have long tubes at the ends, and shorter in the middle.

The image is not a marimba, the marimba is made of wood and different to the image.

The two instruments look very much alike. Main difference seems to be that a vibraphone includes a damper. Definitely didn't see a damper in the picture presented.

It is a marimba. It is much play in Central America.

pastone, my mother played one in her high school orchestra, back in the 30's; once she married my dad, he learned how to play also. She had kept hers and they borrowed one from a friend, and used to play beautiful duets together. A bouncy number was Anchors Aweigh, but Spanish songs were really gorgeous on these instruments. Did I learn how to play, also? Not really, although I could manage to play simple one part songs, but my forte was the clarinet. I do wish I could find a marimba to try again.
