On the 1974 - 1980 US TV show "The Rockford Files", Stuart Margolin (b. January 1940) played Evelyn "Angel" Martin. He was Jim's former prison friend. Angel's persona is one where he is an untrustworthy pathological liar. He is a total con artist whose schemes constantly get Rockford in trouble, yet Jim remains his friend.

During the TV series, James Garner (Jim Rockford) is an original and quintessential anti-hero detective. Once he gets a case, he has to solve it. Rockford is a former crook turned investigator; he tries to stay under the radar. He takes on the cases of the lost and the dispossessed, chasing down seemingly long-dead clues on the sunbaked streets and seamy alleys of Los Angeles, CA.

"The Rockford Files" is a clever detective drama series that aired on the NBC network in September 1974. It lasted until January 1980. Today, the show remains in syndication. Besides starring Garner, Noah Beery Jr. is in a key supporting role as Jim's father, Joseph "Rocky" Rockford, a retired truck driver.

The show was created by Roy Huggins and Stephen J. Cannell. In 2002, "The Rockford Files" was ranked No. 39 on "TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time".

For 6 seasons, fans enjoyed all the episodes which were filled with wry humor, suspense, and engaging, entangled criminal cases. Margolin as Angel is truly a big reason for this show's success; he won two Emmy Awards for playing Evelyn "Angel" Martin.
