What is the official "herald of the spring" in Switzerland?
In Switzerland it comes when a chestnut tree gives its first bud! Since 1818, a particular chestnut tree has been used as the official "herald of the spring" in Geneva. The secretary of the Parliament observes that definite tree and notes the day of arrival of the first bud. While this event has no practical impact, the Parliament issues a formal press release and the local newspaper will definitely mention the news.
