What is the oldest active bridge in NYC?

The longest-standing active bridge in New York City is the High Bridge. it was built in 1843. High Bridge arches above the Harlem River to connect Manhattan to the Bronx. Originally designed as a water main aqueduct; it was not accessible to passengers or vehicles. In the 1960s, the bridge was closed due to a lack of funds to maintain it. In 2015 a $61 million restoration made structural improvements to the bridge, repaired the antique iron railing, and added safety fencing. The bridge then reopened as a pedestrian connection between the New York boroughs.

New York City’s first bridge, known as the King’s Bridge, was constructed in 1693. It was taken out of service in 1917.

Construction of the Brooklyn Bridge was started in 1869 and was completed in 1883. The bridge connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn spanning the East River.

The Manhattan Bridge’s construction started in 1901. The bridge opened in 1909. The bridge crosses the East River connecting Lower Manhattan with Downtown Brooklyn.
