What is the rarest blood type?
The blood group AB is considered the youngest one among the 3 other blood types. It appeared as a result of blending together of the blood groups O and A. This blood type provides people with a flexible immune system. So it seems that being a vessel of such an unusual blood group is cool. But the trouble is that it's almost impossible to find a donor with the blood of this type, especially if you are Rh-negative.
Scientists believe that this blood type is the product of interracial marriages between Indo-Europeans and Asians. But the knowledge of the origin of the phenomenon, however, doesn't make the situation better and there is still a lack of donors with the blood type AB.

AB comes from one parent being A and the other being B, not O as stated . Also AB blood types can receive either A,B ,or O depending on the Rh factor. People with type AB cells are EASIER to find donors, not harder. It's O negative that came receive any other type but it's own.

My late mom was AB - = AB Negative and any time she needed blood or something of that nature - it was a nightmare and I know for a fact she was a direct descendent of the Native American Sachem - Metacom aka "King Philip" who the South County Indian War was named after - the KING PHILIP WAR which took place in the Great Swamp in West Kingston, Rhode Island starting in June 1675 and ending in August 1676 - does that have anything to do with my mothers rare blood type - beats me but it is interesting background knowlege.

As noted from all the comments below, many people know that 0- is the universal donor, and AB+ is the universal recipient. (Those little "-" and "+" signs are pretty important, you know!) I do wish, as do others, that the answers (and even some of the questions) were better vetted and researched. If you're trying to learn something from these quizzes, it's important that you get the correct information. Just sayin'...

stormipaulk, Jamie Richard Bryson is correct! I don't know where you are getting your info. I know as you can read in my post. Plus I am AB pos. My parents were A pos and B pos. Now if you want to go a little further genetically, my parents could have been O recessive or A or B recessive. Don't know we never had them check genetically. Any questions?
