What is the word "wig" short for in the English language?
The word periwig, which is shortened to wig nowadays, first occurred in English in the second half of the 17th century.
A wig is a covering for the head made of synthetic or natural hair. It's usually used to imitate different haircuts. A wig is considered to be an easy decision both for bald people and for the ones wanting to change their hairstyle with no difficulties.

Good question. Went with periwig because I remembered from many decades ago that "perruque" is the French word for wig.
