Saboteur is a 1942 Universal spy thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock where the villain falls from the Statue of Liberty in New York. Cornered villain Fry (Norman Lloyd) flees Pat (Priscilla Lane), Barry (Robert Cummings) and police officers in this signature scene atop the Statue of Liberty from Hitchcock's Saboteur. To obtain the scene of Frye falling from the Statue of Liberty, Norman Lloyd had to be shot against a black background while the camera swiftly pulled up and away from him; the Statue of Liberty and ground below were matted in later.

The final battle with Barry and Frye on the torch of the Statue of Liberty was used to symbolize and show democracy winning over tyranny.
