What song was used in Titanic?

James Cameron did not want to include any songs in the movie. The movie composer was determined to create a full vocal version of his compositions and personally contacted Celine Dion and offered her to sing "My Heart Will Go On". Celine did not like the song, but was talked into singing it once to be recorded. The track was listened by Cameron and he approved it, without trying to do a new recording, so the demo-version of the song was used in the film. The results overcame all expectations - it was an astonishing success.

I adore her and the movie was superb in all ways. Also I think it is sad how the comments in this cool site have become a forum for throwing hissy fits, criticizing, and arguing. I think it's fun and informative. Take it at face value and leave out the bickering and criticism.

Despite some confusion by others, I got what the essence of the question was ... it is the song most often remembered in conversations about the movie ... good movie trivia question .. There is also some debate as to which song was played as she slipped beneath the waves ... others say that it was the hymn 'Nearer My God To Thee' ... Thanks.

Unusual for a demo version of a song to be used. I read somewhere the band played something cheerful as the ship was sinking and not nearer my God. Does anyone know for sure?Also they now say the ships hull broke off below the surface and not before the ship sank as the film shows. Then there are other details such as a fire on the ship that has come out since.
