Which two characters from Sesame Street share their names with the characters from the film "It's A Wonderful Life"?

It's was widely speculated that the characters of Bert and Ernie of Sesame Street were named after Bert the Cop and Ernie the Cab Driver in the 1946 film by Frank Capra "It's A Wonderful Life" starring James Stewart and Donna Reed. Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets, and others from the show have claimed that it was simply a coincidence.

Phoebe Figalily, Yes, Joanne Serin was discussing the main character in the movie. Jajam was asking if Joanne had ever heard of a George on Sesame Street, since she chose that option. Maybe, Joanne is unfamiliar with Sesame Street. Thank you, Christine, James' wife

I got this correct! I noticed when I watched the movie that the characters had the same names as the Sesame Street Muppets. I wondered if the Sesame Street Muppets were named from that movie. Btw, "It's A Wonderful Life" is a must see at my house for Christmas. I love that movie!

Bert was the policeman and Ernie was the taxi driver. I thought everyone knew that. :) My favorite Christmas movie... after “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” of course. :)
