What type of dog is shown in the picture?

A Rattle is a mix between a Rat Terrier and a Poodle. They come in a variety of colors and their coats can range from wavy to straight. If they take on the coat of the Rat Terrier they will be fairly easy to groom as their coat will be shorter and straighter than if they take on the coat of the Poodle which requires frequent grooming. Both the Rat Terrier and the Poodle come in three different sizes so depending on which size is used in the breeding process will determine the size of the Rattle.

Enough with the "designer breed" questions. The truth of the matter is that this dog is a mutt. It's the product of two different breeds, making it a mixed breed, otherwise known as a mongrel or a mutt. Its characteristics are not standardized or consistent. Another dog of similar lineage might look very different.

A 'Rattle' is not a breed - it's a very sweet looking dog but is simply a cross-breed or mongrel. These 'designer dogs' are a complete nonsense! (I adore dogs - mine is a Yorkshire Terrier x Poodle .. known as Yorkipoo .. very endearing title but still nonsense!)

If siblings don't resemble each other and can be identified as different breeds, how can a photo be classified by type?

Just like all the other dog combos, the Rattle is a mixed breed (not a true breed) and basically, a mutt. I do love mixed breeds and always have a couple from the local shelters.

I find it repulsive to cross certain dogs. One of the worst is a golden retriever with a corgi. A golden with short legs seems unfair to the dog to me. Just saying...

williamrlaughlin is exactly right. I think we have to be pretty pedantic about some questions, and as stated, if it's a quiz question we should stick to breeds which have accepted features.
