What type of organization is the Rotary Club?

A Rotary Club is a group of local businessmen and professionals who form part of Rotary International, a community service organization founded in Chicago in 1905. Members of a Rotary Club are called Rotarians. The purpose of a local Rotary Club is to connect people who then work together to solve community problems, provide humanitarian aid, and promote goodwill and peace.

It is the second largest service club in the world. Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 110 years, Rotary's people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. Its main worldwide project was the elimination of polio which was successful.

I had the privilege of being awarded a Rotary Exchange Scholarship 50 years ago which was life changing. Hoping I can attend my 50th reunion in Iowa this year!

Rotary was the very first service club. It is not just for business people and professionals, but folks of all walks of life. In essence, if you want to make a better place, starting in your own community, that is Rotary. Someone mentioned the UN, well Rotarians were instrumental in the founding of the UN, with many of the original signators having been Rotarians. A very major reason that polio is (almost!) eliminated from the face of the earth, is due to the expensive work of Rotary.
