Ronald Reagan's special love for jelly beans was always widely known. It was a kind of a personal moment the president could share with everyone. The story began when he ran for Governor of California in 1966 and started eating “Goelitz Mini Jelly Beans” to help him give up smoking pipe.

Herman Goelitz Candy Company was Reagan's only provider of his all-time favorite candies during his two terms in the White House. Reagan usually preferred licorice flavor over others. He once observed: “You can tell a lot about a fella’s character by whether he picks out all of one color or just grabs a handful.”
