In the U.S. TV series "Jake and the Fatman" (1978-1992), J. L. "Fatman" McCabe (William Conrad) is a Hawaii-born, tough former HPD officer turned Los Angeles (LA) district attorney. He is teamed with a handsome, happy-go-lucky special investigator named Jake Styles (Joe Penny).

As the district attorney, McCabe built a remarkable record of convictions. This is thanks mainly to his gruff, tact-impaired manner, and his willingness to bend the rules when it suits his purposes. Unfortunately, those same qualities have earned him a substantial number of personal enemies. It is Styles, the young special investigator, who frequently has to go under cover to help the Fatman get any key evidence he needs.

"Jake and the Fatman" is an American crime drama television series and it ran on the CBS Network for five seasons from September 26, 1987, to May 6, 1992. Jake and the Fatman are mostly viewed as two guys who are very able to handle any and all criminal cases as needed when the cases fall within their jurisdiction. They have the personalities and life styles that work when it comes to seeking and finding proper justice for people inside and outside a courtroom.
