John Barry Prendergast (aka John Barry, November 1933 – January 2011) was an English composer and conductor of film music and films. Barry's last score for the Bond series was "The Living Daylights" (1987). This is Timothy Dalton's first film in the series with Barry making a cameo appearance as a conductor in the film. Barry was intended to score the 1989 film "License to Kill", but he was recovering from throat surgery at the time and it was considered unsafe for him to fly to London to complete the score. The score was therefore completed by Michael Kamen.

'"he Living Daylights", a spy film, is the 15th entry in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions. This is one of two to star Timothy Dalton as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. The film was directed by John Glen and produced by Albert R. Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, Broccoli's stepson. Broccoli's daughter, Barbara Broccoli, was also a co-producer.

The film's title is taken from Ian Fleming's short story "The Living Daylights", the plot of which also forms the basis of the first act of the film. This was the last film to use the title of an Ian Fleming story until the 2006 instalment "Casino Royale". "The Living Daylights" was a commercial success and grossed $191.2 million worldwide. The film however, in terms of its theatrical appeal, only received mixed reviews from both critics and fans.
