What was the first movie or TV show to show an interracial kiss?
Many cinemaphiles consider Capt. Kirk and Lt. Uhura the first TV couple to push the boundaries and perform the first interracial kiss on screen ever. But they weren't actually the first characters to break this ground: six year before their performance a white woman kissed a black man in the 1962 televised play of "You in Your Small Corner". Such displays of affection were unknown not only for British TV of those times, but also for the whole world. The plot involves Dave, a young, intellectual, middle class Jamaican man (played by Lloyd Reckord), who becomes involved with Terry, a white, working class woman (Elizabeth MacLennan).

The whole world doesn't revolve around all things American. If you assumed the question meant only in America, you were wrong, especially BECAUSE the question was not specific as to country. The world is a big place! Think globally.

You didn't specify what country. For us in the United States, Star Trek, had the first inter-racial kiss.

It sounds like somebody wants a trophy just for playing. Sorry, you only get credit for correct answers here!

A question is a question....we are not taking a survey. Part of answering questions correctly is reading them thouroughly. We have a tendency to read quickly, and often miss the point of a question, or the nuance of a question. Lot of whining going on...I have to laugh when someone says "The question is incorrect, or "misleading" WTF...really? How about, you LOOK at the question before you answer it. For real, someone didn't know that a teleplay or televised play meant TV show? JAYZUSS! We are doomed! I can BET that someone who things a question is misleading also believes in inummerable conspiracy theories, and i would win that bet!

Rick Shomin Why do you say that, Rick? I'm guessing you'll say almost anything just to be contrary, childish, and annoying. You constantly respond on a sophomoric level. If you have an actual issue with me, spell it out or else crawl back under that rock from whence you came. You are such a mosquito; small and inconsequential, yet annoying just the same. Man up and tell me what your problem is with me. Please be specific so I can explain, point by point why you are wrong all the time using the smallest words possible, so you can follow me.

Richard Payne Yes, Im proud to always have the liberal answer and I know we're in America. I'm not sure what your point is though. However, I do not believe this quiz site originates in the U.S. and it reaches quiz takers around the world.

williamrlaughlin, Yes, i totally agree. Countries outside of America don't count for much for average middle-class Americans who view Europe mainly as an historical nicety or at best a perfunctory stop over on a trip, only to return to the US and broadcast to all and sundry how much better the US is. That said, it is the birth place of Poe, Barber, Hendrix, Gershwin inter alia. So it can't be all bad.

I don't even want to get into the minutiae of who kissed whom and when. Also think that it's a shame that ANY of these kisses made news anywhere. I always thought we were all human beings.

Answer is incorrect. The first interracial kiss on UK TV took place on 1 February 1959 during a broadcast of 'Hot Summer Night' by Ted Willis - part of Armchair Theatre. Incidentally it was the same actor: the actress was Andree Melly.
As asserted there are some movies that are definitely earlier. For the US it is also dependant on how you define interracial. If you count white/hispanic then shows like I Love Lucy knock Star Trek into the long grass by a long way.
The world is not solely black and white!

Actually, Pinky beat them to the punch. Pinky was a light=skilled woman who passed for white. She kissed William Lundigan in the 1949 movie

While this is not strictly an American site many people from many different countries play.you need to be more specific as to whether you meant in the U.S. or the world because for the United States the answer is Star Trek. For the UK it's You In Your Small Corner. In other countries it could be something else all together

You might want to check out a movie called "Shadows." A largely improvised film by John Cassevetes. It might be earlier than "Small Corner."
