What was the first National Monument in the United States?

The great natural monument presents a magnificent view. The igneous rock's height is approximately 1,500 meters and since 1906 it has been given a title of the first National Monument of the USA. The origin of the monument is still a mystery for scientists, though there are some feasible versions of its formation. The main one is that the rock is a neck (some kind of a "leftover") of an ancient volcano.

Divel's Tower is a Land Laccolith located in the Black Hills of Crook County Wyoming. It stands approximately 1,200ft above the Land Mass. It was declared a National Monument by President Theodore Roosevelt on September 24, 1906. Studies shows it was once a religous site for the local Indian Tribe.

It is still a religious site for Natives. As is Bear Butte, near Sturgis, SD and Inyan Kara, near Sundance, Wyoming and all the rest of the Black Hills.

Its height is 1,500 meters? Not really. That is just under 5,000 feet. I believe it is about 1,185 feet taller that its surroundings.

Wasn't this a recent question? Visited there years ago, hoping the space craft from Close Encounters would show up... no luck, but saw about a million prarie dogs on the road to the tower. (Aliens, perhaps?)
