What was the Manhattan Project?

The American effort to create the first nuclear weapons during WWII had the code name "The Manhattan Project". America worked with assistance from Canada and the UK. The project was being developed from 1942 to 1946 and two atomic bombs were the result of it.

There were more than two atomic bombs produced from the Manhattan Project. I guess the author didn’t remember the Trinity test site.

It took 2 bombs to get the Japanese to surrender. Thousands of US, English, Dutch and Australian men lost their lives fighting the Japanese and in POW camps, where they were starved, inhumanely treated and virtually worked to death. Sure it was a great tragedy on humanity, on all sides, but, also don't forget who went back there to rebuild Japan afterwards.

My maternal Grandpa worked at Los Alamos. My Mom was a little girl then, Grandpa was a machinist there.

The Manhattan project was more than Los Alamos, in fact other laboratories were involved. The final assembly was at Los Alamos. And testing was done at white sands NM. I worked at Los Alamos, and would suggest reading the history on the project. It is very interesting reading.
