Dorothy Leigh Sayers (1893-1957) was one of Queens of Crime during the Golden Age of detective fiction. In 1923 her first novel, Whose Body, introduced the world to the aristocratic amateur sleuth, Lord Peter Death Bredon Wimsey. Her monocled hero would go on to feature in fourteen volumes of novels and short stories. Lord Peter solved a series of ingenious and convoluted crimes with the help of his faithful gentleman's gentleman, Mervyn Bunter; Inspector Charles Parker who went on to marry Wimsey's sister, Mary; and a crime writer whom he successfully cleared of murder and eventually married, Harriet Vane.
