What were the tall pines used for in early American history?
Tall white pines were used for making masts for ships. The times of the Thirteen Colonies were the age of square riggers, and they were made from tall white pines also named mast pines. The agents of the Crown marked the wood with broad arrows, which meant the pines were reserved for British navy.
