This great statesman was also known as an outstanding hunter and explorer, whose amazing adventures made him a kind of a national hero in the USA. Boone became a legend after the first publication of the book about his adventures and his portrait served as a prototype for the image of the Hero of the West in American folklore. After his death in 1820, he became a character of many legends and fairytales: some of them were based on his real adventures and some were pure fiction.
