When did Kenya gain its independence from Britain?
12 December, 1963 - Kenya gained its independence from Britain with Jomo Kenyatta as the country's first Prime Minister. The Union Jack was replaced by the black, red and green flag of the new nation. This followed the first all inclusive elections on 27 May 1963. A year later Kenya was declared a Republic.

Hong Kong being shifte from British Crown Colony (BCC) to The Peoples Republic of China (PRC) was not a "Nice Gesture", The Treaty specified the turn over date. Same for the US and Gitmo. Bay and Cuba with a 99 year "Lease" Treaty. The Treaty was Validated when Castro accepted the first "Payment". He has since refused to "Cash" the annual check that is sent. In the Court of Law, if you accept "a" payment, then you acknowledge the contract.

The year that Kenya gained it's independence from Great Britain, doesn't seem that long ago. But the most recent turnover of Hong Kong to China in 1997, was a nice gesture of Great Britain as well.
