When is the World Book Day celebrated?

World Book Day aka International Day of the Book is an annual event celebrated on the 23rd of April.

It was organized by the UNESCO in order to promote reading, publishing and copyright. In the United Kingdom, the day is recognized on the first Thursday in March. World Book Day was celebrated for the first time on the 23rd of April,1995.

The original idea of the holiday is said to be a way to honor the Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes who died on this very date (23 April).

It is always held in March. on the first Thursday of the Month. I love to watch the children pass by my window dressed in their Book Day Costumes

The explanation fails to mention that April 23rd is the birth date of William Shakespeare, it is also, coincidently the date he was believed to have died on.
