When was Cyprus partitioned?

The Turkish invasion of Cyprus launched on 20 July 1974, was a Turkish military invasion of the island country of Cyprus, which was carried out following the 1974 Cypriot coup d'état. In August 1974 a further Turkish invasion resulted in the capture of approximately 40% of the island. The ceasefire line from August 1974 became the United Nations Buffer Zone in Cyprus and is commonly referred to as the Green Line. This action ended in the partition of Cyprus along the UN-monitored Green Line, which still divides Cyprus, and the formation of a de facto autonomous Turkish Cypriot administration in the north.

My dad was to Greece there working with a Greek company for months as an engineer for a Swedish company. He did visit Cyprus and did taking photos. The police did questioning him and took the film from him. But they did let him go after that.

The photographer on my college yearbook staff was from Cyprus. I remember how upset he was at that time. My undergraduate years were 1971-75, so the answer was easy.

Ilias Tsiabardas, Ilias, I thought it happened in the 60's as many Greeks came to Liverpool at that time and I got to know (and date) quite a few, but I believe the trouble between the Greek and Turkish people had been going on for a long time with Turkey wanting to control the island. A friends father was the Greek Diplomat in Liverpool and his home and land in the north of Cyprus were taken, many years later my friend returned to find her property in ruins. I went to Cyprus for the first time last year and fell in love with the island and immediately booked to return this year, sadly we were due to go next week.
