International Day of Yoga, or commonly and unofficially referred to as Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on 21 June. The first International Day of Yoga was celebrated around the world on 21 June 2015. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice which originated in India.

The idea of International Day of Yoga was first proposed by the current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), on 27 September 2014.

Yoga is believed to be a 6000-year-old practice, whose origins can be traced back to Lord Shiva, the Adi Guru for all yogis in this world, as per the Hindu religion. Yoga is not any tantric art form, but a purely scientific approach towards life, which aims to heal the body, mind and soul by establishing a union between the human body and Mother Nature.
