Where in the human body is the cochlea found?
The cochlea is the part of the inner ear involved in hearing. It is a spiral-shaped cavity in the bony labyrinth, in humans making 2.75 turns around its axis, the modiolus. A core component of the cochlea is the Organ of Corti, the sensory organ of hearing, which is distributed along the partition separating fluid chambers in the coiled tapered tube of the cochlea.
The name cochlea derives from Ancient Greek κοχλίας (kōhlias), meaning 'spiral, snail shell'.

I knew this, as the daughter of a friend of mine had a cochlea ear implant when she was little.

Julie Titus, I'm sorry to hear that. I had a close friend and his son was born with very disfiguring ears. I think he said Lane could only hear about 10%. They have gone thru many operations with little improvement. Through it all, Lane has grown to be a fine young man. He is in his H.S. band, and he can play the drums that would make Ringo Star look like a beginner. Keep the faith, and God bless you.

My daughter was born deaf. At 36 years old they finally had a cochlear implant that could aid her. After a half dozen appointments, tons of questions, and advice she had the surgery. After recovery we were at the turn it on appointment. Warning to future cochlear implant patients her experience was traumatic. My voice was the first thing she was to hear. But what they neglected to inform us was as soon as the computer was set and the implant turned on all she heard was high pitched loud beeping. The audiologist said eventually her brain would learn how to ignore that. Needless to say her surgery was a failure.
