Where is Azerbaijan located?

Azerbaijan is bounded by the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus Mountains, which span Asia and Europe. Its capital, Baku, is famed for its medieval walled Inner City. Within the Inner City lies the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, a royal retreat dating to the 15th century, and the centuries-old stone Maiden Tower, which dominates the city skyline. Many resources debate on it being an Asian or a European country, therefore both choices are valid.

I thought it was within Europe. I looked it up on worldatlas.com and found this out: The Republic of Azerbaijan is a transcontinental country located in South-Eastern Europe and South-West Asia. The continents of Asia and Europe lie close to each other with no definitive boundaries, and this has led to some countries being transcontinental. The two continents have been at times counted as one and named Eurasia.

Azerbaijan and its neighbours Georgia & Armenia are often considered European despite being south of the Caucasus mountains which is the traditional European border.
