Where is Graceland, the legendary home of Elvis Presley?

Graceland, located at 3764 Elvis Presley Blvd, is a mansion on a 13.8-acre (5.6-hectare) estate in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. It was once owned by singer and actor Elvis Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977). His daughter, Lisa Marie Presley (born February 1, 1968), inherited Graceland in 1977 after his death. Graceland is located in the vast Whitehaven community, about 9 miles (14 kilometers) from Downtown and less than 4 miles (6.4 km) north of the Mississippi border.

On June 7, 1982, it was opened to the public as a museum. The site was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on November 7, 1991, becoming the first site related to rock and roll to be entered therein. Graceland was declared a National Historic Landmark on March 27, 2006, also a first for such a site. Graceland is the most-visited privately owned home in America with over 650,000 visitors a year, rivaling publicly owned houses such as Biltmore Estate, Hearst Castle, and the White House.

There were times before he died that there would be a few loyal fans gathered at the gate of Graceland in the late evening. Occasionally Elvis would go out and talk to them and sometimes invite them inside like a well-mannered Southern gentleman of that era would do.

Been three times, love Graceland. Huge Elvis fan. Brainwashed as a young boy by my big sister. Thank you Big Sis.

Despite the obvious commercialism of the place, it was a highlight of our Tennessee trip 3 years ago. Like someone earlier said, I too was surprised at how small the house was, and I'll add, the "taste" level. I did note that there was an Italian mid century ash tray in the Livingroom that I coveted, (I collect them, and have better ones than Elvis did) but "graciously" left it there for others to behold. The second floor stairs are private and were unavailable to tour. We spent the extra bit of money to see all of the exibits on the property, including the car collection, and weren't disappointed. I have to say that there is a sadness to the place that is palpable. Like kings often do, he must have led a weird and sometimes lonely life. I'm proud to say that we left with no souvenirs except for photographs and 2 greasy hamburger meals. Don't miss it!

Been a fan all my life, mom was and got me hooked. Glad we saw him in 1975 in concert. Would love to see Graceland also

In 1976, Bruce Springsteen jumped the fence at Graceland hoping to meet his hero. Sadly, Elvis had left the building, and security threw the Boss out. Bruce never had another chance because less than a year later, the King was dead.

In 1987, my mom and I were on our way back to Ohio from my dad's old house in Arkansas, by way of the Memphis area. I wasn"t an Elvis fan (yet), though I did like "Moody Blue." Well, we're so close, let's just drive by. We're so close, let's see if there's anything interesting to go in and look at. Well, we're here, let's just do the whole tour--and a couple of the things they told us about him that hadn't been publicized during his lifetime did it for me and I was a FAN by the time we left.

Been there - well worth a visit. Not a massive Elvis fan but it’s a fascinating and well put together exhibition, as is Sun Studios up the road. Loved Memphis - but only scratched the surface.

I visited there in2004. I loved Graceland there was a tour of the rooms in the house with an explanation of what Elvis did in each room . There was a display of checks he wrote to random strangers. His gold and platinum records. Across the street is a museum where his cars are dissayed, even the pink Catalaclk. A real fan would find it inte4esting.

I saw it many times as a Kid,as we lived near enough to walk by. It seemed big at the time,but seeing it as an Adult,it's fairly average.

I went about 20 years ago, not a huge fan but found it interesting and the home was quite humble, definitely a recommended stop

Wendy Petty, No Wendy it was already built in 1939, and named by Dr Thomas More and his wife Ruth. It was named Graceland in honour of one of his family members.
