Tallinn is the capital, the most populous and the primate city of Estonia. Tallinn, first mentioned in 1154, received city rights in 1248, but the earliest human settlements date back 5,000 years.

Unlike many other capital cities in Europe, Tallinn has managed to wholly preserve its structure of medieval and Hanseatic origin. Due to its exceptionally intact 13th century city plan, the Old Town was inscribed as a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage Site in 1997.

Here you'll find original cobblestone streets dotted with medieval churches and grandiose merchant houses, barns and warehouses many of which date back to the Middle Ages.

The first traces of hunter-fisherman community migrations in the present day Tallinn's city centre, found by the archeologists are about 5,000 years old. The ceramic pottery found on the site dates to about 3000 BCE.
