The Home Insurance Building was located in Chicago. It was constructed in 1885 as the first skyscraper in the world built not only by means of masonry, but with the help of metal. Such a technology was a true novelty, providing economical and efficient design. With the height of 138 feet (42 meters) it was the tallest building in the world from 1884 to 1889. The Home Insurance Building was destroyed in 1931 in order to build the Field Building.
