Professor Bernard Quatermass is a fictional scientist, originally created by the writer Nigel Kneale for BBC Television. In the three original TV series (1953-1959) Quatermass was portrayed by three different actors. In the first (The Quatermass Experiment) he was played by Reginald Tate, in the second (Quatermass II) he was played by John Robinson and the third, Quatermass and the Pit he was played by André Morell.

The three original TV series were later turned into cinematic films. In the first two, Quatermass was played by the American actor Brian Donlevy (not to Nigel Kneals liking!). In the last (Quatermass and the Pit) he was played by Andrew Kier.

In 1979 Nigel Kneal wrote a final story for Professor Bernard Quatermass. It aired on the commercial channel ITV rather than the BBC and starred Sir John Mills as the titular character.

Then as part of a "TV on Trial" celebration BBC4 in 2005 did a totally live remake of Quatermass that had Jason Flemyng in the role.

Peter Cushing never played Quatermass. He did however play another BBC SciFi character and that was Dr Who in two films in the 60's.
