Peugeot was involved in the early years of motor racing. In 1912 Peugeot introduced a revolutionary new engine for their race car. This engine was an in-line 4 cylinder engine with dual overhead cams and four valves per cylinder. This car won the French Grand Prix at Dieppe in it's first race. The next year this new engine and car was victorious in the 1913 Indianapolis 500.
