'Lily the Pink' is a 1968 number-one single by The Scaffold based on the folk song 'The Ballad of Lydia Pinkham'. The comical lyrics praise a "medicinal compound" invented by the titular Lily the Pink that has obscure cures for various problems, such as inducing morbid obesity to cure a weak appetite, or causing a sex change as a remedy for freckles. The song remained number one in the UK Singles Chart for four weeks during December 1968, making it that year's Christmas Number One.

'The Ballad of Lydia Pinkham', upon which the song is based, was inspired by Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound, a herbal-alcoholic medicine said to relieve menstrual pain. It became a popular tonic during the Prohibition era (1920-1933) when alcohol was forbidden.

The Scaffold was formed by Mike McGear (ex-Beatles Paul McCartney's brother), Roger McGough and John Gorman, yet several backing singers were involved with the production of 'Lily the Pink'. Singers included Graham Nash of The Hollies, Reg Dwight (later known as Elton John), and the lyricist Tim Rice.
