We lost 55k in Vietnam and to think 51k in 3 days at Gettysburg is an
amazing loss of life. I live close to Gettysburg and if you never have visited, put it on your bucket list. It's a Holy place which salutes both sides. It's an amazing place and prepare to spend an entire day. Well worth it

A point of interest, the Confederates chose Gettysburg because there was a shoe factory there. Many of the Confederates were fighting with worn-out shoes or barefoot

Always has been very sad for me: Brother against brother. Americans vs. Americans. An account that should be embedded in our hearts. "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." (George Santayana) Whenever a voice or fist in raised in anger to another human being, please read 1John 4:21: "Whoever loves God must also love his brother." World wars killed many people, civil wars kills the soul of our nation.

Antietam was one day but Gettysburg lasted three so Antietam was the bloodiest DAY but Gettysburg has the dubious honor of being the bloodiest battle. I lived within an easy drive to both places. Very beautiful sites until you contemplate what happened there in the past. May all the deceased find peace

Been there a few times and must agree! Visit the electric map first, then explore the battle field, especially Devils Den!marleyventures,

linda ergo, The North had slavery too. Blacks had slaves as well. Whites were enslaved too. It was not a war about slavery. Native Americans had slaves and were enslaved. School did not teach the full story.

I've visited Gettysburg several times. There is an aura of sadness just by being there. It's a beautiful place though!
