Mohammed Yusuf Khan (11 December, 1922 - 7 July, 2021), better known by his stage name Dilip Kumar, was an Indian actor and producer who worked in Indian cinema. Legendary actor who passed away at the age of 98, was known to generations of film-goers as the "Tragedy King" for his portrayal of the brooding, intense romantic in classics such as 'Mughal- e-Azam' and 'Devdas', films. He epitomised the composite culture of India, both in his films that explored stories of rebellion, hope and love in his seven decades in public life. In a career spanning over five decades, Kumar worked in over 65 films in a variety of roles. He married actress Saira Banu in 1966. They did not have any children.

Dilip kumar collected a number of laurels during his long and glorious career. To mention a few, kumar was appointed as Sheriff of Mumbai in 1980, the Government of India honoured Kumar with the Padma Bushan in 1991 and the Padma Vibhushan in 1994 (Both highest civilian awards), the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (Top Indian Film award) in 1997. The Government of Pakistan conferred Kumar with Nishan-e-Imtiaz, the highest civilian award in Pakistan, in 1998. Kumar later served as a member of the upper house of India's parliament from 2000 to 2006. He holds the Guinness World Record for having received the most awards by an Indian actor. He was honoured by the World Book of Records on his 97th birthday for his "matchless contribution to Indian cinema and promoting social causes".
