'Carry On, Follow That Camel' (also known as 'Follow That Camel'), was the 14th film in the 'Carry On' series (1958–1992). The 1967 film parodies the book 'Beau Geste' (1924) by PC Wren. Phil Silvers made his only 'Carry On' appearance in this film, alongside regulars, such as Kenneth Williams and Bernard Bresslaw.

Phil Silvers (1911-1985) was an American entertainer, comedian, and actor. He was best known for his role as Sergeant Bilko in 'The Phil Silvers Show'. Although the 'Carry On' films were a British franchise, Silvers was invited to guest star in 'Follow That Camel' in an attempt to make the series popular in America. Silvers was paid £30,000, the largest 'Carry On' salary ever.

'Follow That Camel' is about a young English aristocrat who joins the Foreign Legion. In some ways he resembles Silvers' Sergeant Bilko character, i.e. a bogus legionnaire. Despite this, he proves his mettle during an Arab attack.

During filming, Silvers was unable to learn his lines, so boards were placed behind the camera for him to read. The role of the Foreign Legion Sergeant was originally earmarked for comic actor Sid James (1913-1976), but he had a commitment to another series at the time, so the part was given to Silvers instead.
