Which castle was used as the main location for the "Downton Abbey" series shown on the PBS?

In 2010–15, the "Downton Abbey" TV series ran for six seasons on PBS. All throughout the show's history, Highclere Castle (home to the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon) was used as the main location for the historical drama series that originated on ITV (Independent Television) and was then shown on PBS. In the series, it follows the lives of the Crawley family and their servants in the family's country house, takes place. The great hall, dining room, library, music room, drawing room, salon and several of the bedrooms of Highclere Castle were used for filming, as well as the grounds and exterior facades of the castle.

Highclere Castle is a Grade I listed country house built in 1679 and largely renovated in the 1840s, with a park designed by Capability Brown in the 18th century. The 5,000-acre estate is in Hampshire, England, south of Newbury, Berkshire, and just north of Andover, Hampshire.

In 1991 Highclere Park was registered as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). This is a formal conservation designation. Usually, it describes an area that's of particular interest to science due to the rare species of fauna and flora that it contains.
