Contrary to popular belief, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was the first animated creation of Walt Disney. He was designed by Disney along with chief animator, Ub Iwerks, and Charles Mintz for Universal Pictures.

He made his first appearance in a short film titled, "Trolley Troubles" (1927), which became Universal's first major hit. His last cartoon appearance was a cameo in "The Woody Woodpecker Polka" (1951).

In 2006, The Walt Disney Company acquired the trademark of Oswald from the NBC Universal. He returned in Disney's 2010 video game, "Epic Mickey". He has since appeared in Disney theme parks and comic books. After 85 years, his cameo appearance in the 2013 animated short "Get a Horse!" marked his return to the screen. He also appeared in 2015 feature film "Walt Before Mickey". Oswald also appears as a townsperson in "Disney Infinity 2.0".

Walter Elias Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966), was an American entrepreneur, animator, writer, voice actor, and film producer who famously set up the Disney Brothers Studio in California, in the early1920s.
