A truly comedic artist who played beautician Gladys Pope on the U.S. soap opera "The Bold and the Beautiful" was Phyllis Diller (1917 - 2012). She appeared on the TV soap show for over eleven seasons in her recurring character for 18 episodes.

Phyllis Ada Diller was an American actress and comedienne. She was best known for her eccentric stage persona, her self-deprecating humor, her wild hair and clothes, and her exaggerated, cackling laugh. She was born in July 1917 in Lima, Ohio, USA. Diller died on August 20, 2012 at her home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles, CA, where she had briefly served as honorary mayor. At 95 years old, her life ended from congestive heart failure. She was survived by three children and several grandchildren.

Besides working on many television shows, she had roles in more than 40 big screen films. During her life, she would often say, "A smile is a curve that sets everything straight." With this idea as a guide, critics held that she had a very successful career.
